What are these

and are they important

true story..

A few weeks ago i did the passenger side caliper, wheel bearing, u joint, and ball joint and never saw one of these

last week started the driver side and saw one of these either between the seal and bearing or on the front side of the bearing.

Did not think much of it because did not see one on the other side or on any of the videos I watched. But then yesterday I was cleaning the garage and found it’s mate. So I wonder if it fell off amd I did not see it and it should be there

Yes, it's called a thrust washer for your vacuum hubs, check out this post and it'll explain with pictures.

Yeah, putting those thrust washers back in in the proper place might be good for the longevity of the bearing assembly. Not to mention your life when they fail prematurely. On top of that, but the ESOF won't work without them installed in the right direction. Right now, you have no 4WD. The grooves in the thrust bearing is where the vacuum goes through to lock the hubs.

Watch this video all the way through. It shows where everything goes on a D60. D50 is pretty much the exact same. If you are impatient, you can see where they go at about 8:15.

Great. Thanks
guess the passenger bearing is coming back off

goes along with my motto - why do something once when you can do it 2 or 3 times

oh, and I bent the yoke taking the ujointbout is the drivers side so I had to order up another axle

now for the upper level question...

can you press the u joint through the yolk like all the u tube videos with the external clip or is the cap for these u joints beveled?

I think I bent the first one using the hit is with a big hammer method.
