Spindle Bearing Installation? Please Help!

I have been having some grinding in my front end lately. Took off passenger side wheel and discovered that. The spindle bearing was completely gone. I tried to get a new one in there and it would only go so far. I ended up destroying the bearing trying to get it in. How far does the bearing have to go in to to the actual spindle? The seal that it came with looks as if it sits down into the hole somewhat.
See pic. Does the bearing go all the way down to the bottom grove/built in race? Thanks

D, ya need to get after that spindle with a wire brush on a drill of sorts. Make sure that the first ridge is not what's left of the previous bearing. I know that the seal that rides directly on that bearing is about 1/8" thick. so the bearing needs to be below the flange at least that much. But I can't remember of the top of my head how many ridges there are.

Yea. I think that was the problem. I need to clean that out with a die grinder.

Here is what I bought. The seal in the upper right does go into the hole a bit. So the bearing does have to be resessed. Thanks Again.

I am getting stressed. Calling for some snow tomorrow night into wed. My other truck is already permenantly down for the season. I just hope I can get through this winter. Thanks for your help duck!

Derek, You can use just a normal straight slot screw driver and hammer or chsel to get that casing out. But I guess a die grinder would be easy too if you have one on hand. But seriously, your an hour from being done with it. Just stay focused and your good to go. The new bearing should go in pretty easy with a socket or something large enough to drive the whole thing. I've used a flat punch to do it too. But once that bearing is in there, it's all down hill. Smear a good coat of grease on that shaft bearing, then Axle shafts back in, seals on, spindle 5 nuts, hub and rotor make sure the bearings have good grease, and the lockout. Your home free.

Also check the stubshaft.
Many times if the bearing is damaged so
will be the stub. If not repaired/replaced
it will wipe out the new bearing in no time.
