Again, this truck I've recently bought has thrown me a curve ball. Went to change the oil yesterday, and put my socket on the sump plug. I thought it was extremely tight, but I did manage to crack it loose. The only problem is, is that it just spins and spins. So I'm thinking it's cross threaded. I've read a whole bunch of posts on here about this and how to fix it, but nothing about getting the plug out. I have a fumoto valve that I want to put in, and now I'm worried that I the pan is the problem and not the plug. Any help would be much appreciated.
Have you tried putting downward pressure on it while you’re spinning it off? Put a flathead screw driver in the opening and push down on it while unscrewing. Put vice grips in the plug and pull down while unscrewing.
get vicegrips on it and pull down as you turn it might catch a thread and come out, then inspect the threads with your finger when you get it out, thats the threads in the pan, if they good get a new plug and try that if not you can get a rubber expansion plug and use that as a oil plug tell you get it fixed.
If a stock pan plug will not screw and tighten, I would not attempt to use the fumoto valve. I would get an oversize pan plug. It is design to re-cut the threads as it screws into the pan.
Thanks for the help everyone. I put vice grips on the plug, and it came out with downward pressure. The plug threads were completely buggered. I looked a the pan and it seemed ok. Tried the fumoto valve, and didn't rush, in case there was something I missed. But it went in without a hitch and it's all good! All the input was much appreciated!
