Completing a flush on my '95 PSD and trying to determine proper cooling capacity. Have done lots of searches, read Gooch's Procedure, etc, and there seems to be no consensus on this. My manual says 22 quarts but I've seen posts stating 22, 29, & 32. Anyway, I've flushed and drained multiple times now (including block plug removal) and all the distilled water I can get it to hold is between 5.5 and 6 gal. My question is should I still add the 4 quarts of coolant and about 2 gal of distilled water or shoot for 2.75 gal of each to get to closer to 50/50? I'm using the Peak Fleet Charge pink.
If your peak fleet is the concentrated stuff, what I do is get four gallons of it and four distilled. Pour in a coolant gallon then a distilled gallon until full. You will only have a little left over.
Just to add,so in my limited mental thinking,OH BOY!!!.,I would add 2 and 1/2 gallons of concentrated,or full strength, and 2 and 1/2 distilled water
for a 50/50 mix?.

Yes.
If you want to be more precise toward the end, take your Pyrex 2 cup measuring guy from the kitchen. After first two gallons of concentrate and first two gallons of distilled water, save empty jugs. Take your fresh gallon of water and mark the appx full mark with a black marker. Pour four, 2 cup measurements and dump it into an empty water gallon container. That is 128oz of water in two containers making 64oz each. Top off with coolant to your original fill mark. There you have two gallons (256oz) nearly perfect 50/50 mix. Leave rest of coolant in its container, pour the other half of the water in there. Now you have another 50/50 for the truck and can make another easily.
This sounds complex, but it is beyond easy.
I bought four gallons of the Fleet Charge, I forget how much my truck took. Water pump was done at same time (along with rest of hoses) and since my driver drain plug would not come out I removed block heater. Took a long *** time to flush the old green crap on out of my truck. First few flushes I just used the garden hose and once it was cleaning up inside, I swapped over to the distilled only for flushes.
Thanks for all the responses. Wish could help clear this up for other owners of these model years but I'm starting to think each engine has it's own capacity. Anyway, for my unit, it took exactly 6 gal to fill it up between the lines on the reservoir. I've got it up to temp a couple of times over the weekend and so far have had to add about another .25 gal to top it off. Looks like it'll wind up being somewhere about 25 quarts.
On a side note, I contacted my local Ford dealer, one of the biggest in Texas, to try and find out system capacity. Got passed back and forth between service and parts departments a couple of times. Ultimately, parts told me they could not find a chart with capacity, only type of coolant, and service department told me to "google" it. Said their job was to move vehicles in a and out. Said the technicians were the only ones that would have that info and that getting one of them on the phone would be "impossible". Didn't even offer to walk back and ask...poor customer service for sure.
nateairman, to answer your question: I had to replace the water pump. So, I decided to do a full flush, replace fan clutch, replace hoses, pull radiator and clean, etc. Even found that both idler pulleys were in need of replacement.
