2002 Excursion 7.3. The display was dead, found a couple resistors that were separated so I re-soldered all of them and it worked, briefly. A few seconds later 8 yellowish-white horizontal lines appeared and the green displayed stuff got dimmer as the lines got brighter. The lines continued to get brighter as I drove and the display info was gone. I grabbed another one I'd pulled from the junkyard that also had desoldered resistors so I soldered it and installed, same results. I checked both of them over and can't find any problems with the solder job, even pulled on the resistors with a small screwdriver to assure they were secure.
I assume the vehicle has a problem in the wiring, but odd that both seemed to work ok for a moment. Only issues I noticed was that neither would display instant MPG, only average, and the second one displayed -40 outside temp. and it's about 80F. I didn't pay attention to the temperature display on the first one. Any ideas?
