overhead console temp/MPG went out

The little screen that shows the MPG and outside temp went out a few months back. Getting close to winter so i'm getting more interested in fixing it if it's a simple thing. Any ideas on where i should start?

AFAIK, everything else works fine.

This is on a 2000 Limited.

Yeah, it needs to be removed and some soldering done.

Stand by...looking for the thread so I can link you to it and add it to the tech folder.

ok so i got impatient and now have another question. I pulled it all apart. Very quick and easy (literally 2 min to get it all off and apart)

Now i've soldered a few things but i've never worked on something so TINY!

The screen is located at an angle directly above the chip that looks moved.

How in the world am i supposed to solder that?!

i thought about doing that but i didn't want to damage the contacts. those metal wires are quite strong. well i ran out of time at work and ended up just bending the chip back down and reinstalling with no soldering. I received the spark plug thread repair kit i needed and figured that was more important.

To my surprise the display now works again but i'm sure it'll turn off as soon as the chip gets vibrated enough to bend back down.

On a positive note, i repaired my spark plug threads and replaced the whole driver's side bank before i had to get back home for dinner

Tomorrow the passenger side... but i'll say even replacing half, the truck is got much more gettup.

Yeah i think now that i see what i'd have to do, for $25 i'd be more comfortable having it professionally done and done right.

I think I caught him on a sale for $25 one day as these are $29. You just remove your computer, ship it to them, they have it for like a day and then they ship it back. Took less than a week. Has been working GREAT since March of this year.

Plus, if they can't fix it, they refund your $29...

I like how they say "repair with 7 updates"

I'd like it a lot more if they just were truthful and said, "Precision Soldering Service. We'll solder our overhead display so it doesn't come loose again. replacing of resistors included if necessary. "

Either way the price is basically $36 plus shipping to them so call it $43.

Probably still worth it
