Help with Fred Jones Engine Tag

Anyone have any experience with Fred Jones Reman motors who can decipher for me. Not sure what the bore and bearing codes mean. Prior owner passed away and family doesn’t know much. Its a running engine, supposedly rebuilt with 10k miles on it. Rebuild was in the 80’s so likely when this motor was installed. Block casting # is C7ME-A. Called the existing Fred Jones Corp and Ford Warranty division and no records exist. Would appreciate any information someone might have.

Welcome to FTE.. I found a bunch of things about Fred Jones here and on other threads, but nothing that decodes a tag. And no other tags like yours.

Usually, and I say this because it's all I've ever heard you find on a reman tag, it has all the rebuilder info, etc, and then it's stamped something like : 10-10-30. Which means 10 under rods, 10 under mains, and .030 overbore.

Could be a 410 or 428 or a 360. It's a runner, right? What are your plans for it? If it's just for an old pickup, slap it in there and run it. Something special? Pull the heads and pan and check things out.

Serving suggestion.....

Thanks. Supposed to be a 428 that is bored .030 over. Was hoping the tag confirmed that. Wish they would have used numbers instead of letters for the bore and bearing data as have no idea what the letters mean. Was thinking perhaps it was like a date code and each letter progressing down the alphabet would indicate .010. So the B would indicated .020 for the bearings and the E would indicate a .050 for the block. Thoughts?

I would expect an "A" to be original size, "B" to be .010

An "E" for the bore would be .040 - but who knows unless you open it up.

Good point. That makes sense. Trying to avoid opening it up and the inevitable “well if I’m going to pull that I may as well replace that, and if this is coming out, I’ll just upgrade that, and while I’m in there I’ll just do.........” and before I know it my credit card is maxed and I’ve got a 500hp motor I really didn’t need. It’s an illnes, I know, I need help - no self restraint.

my guess too simple number to alpha conversion
That 428 would make me want to open it up and see exactly what though
