292/312 Engine block tag
Need help identifying this tag.
I suspect it is riveted to the side of the block as a "service record" tag as it probably was rebuilt at a shop at some point in its life.
Odd part is this truck should have a 292, not a 312 (by literature anyway).
Read in a few ancient posts that some trucks sold in the high mountain western states that were 292 by VIN actually got a 312 even though Ford didn't post that in writing. This truck was originally sold in Colorado.
Has anyone see a tag like this before. I wish it were more readable. its located between the crank case breather and oil filter. Block is ECZ 6015 C.
I pulled the oil pan and read the main caps. Its ECZ, definitely a 312.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info.
It looks very much like a rebuild shop tag to me also.
Just wish I knew what the numbers meant. Bore oversize "E"????
I did notice some scars on the crank when I had the oil pan off to check the main caps. Looks like something might have popped loose and bounced around a bit somewhere in its history.
I'd like to think that this truck might have got one of the "undocumented" 312s (if those really exist) since it was ordered and delivered to Colorado, but in reality, its more likely the 292 wore out and the P.O. just dropped in the 312 instead. Who knows. Whoever did it, they seemed to do a good job. No real evidence is present that would be a "indication" the motor was not original to the truck. Everything is in its place and looks just as it should.
Hopefully there are others that may shed light on this.

Hey y'all, I had to register and bump this old thread because I basically uncovered the same tag on my '60 F100 Motor. I picked the motor up in Fort Collins, so I guess this make sense. Garnsey & Wheeler was a Ford dealer until 2007. I think Garnsey is still kickin.
I still haven't decipered what the codes are but,
6303 "B9TE A" Crank - is stock crank
6211 "I" Rod Bearings - unsure, but I assume oversize?
6333 "I" Main Bearings - unsure, but again I assume oversize?
