Here's a thought. Doing the Lincoln style auto-fold mirror mod requires changing the wiring of the mirrors so that they'll fold when the truck is locked. Does this wiring change result in constant power to the mirrors even when truck is off? It would appear as if it does. So if one were to make the wiring change but NOT do the FORScan mod for the auto fold, it seems as if it would allow the mirrors to be folded any time? Though perhaps there still needs to be juice to the fold button...
I just wish I could do it when I need it to. I like the idea of them always folding in when I turn off the truck or when I lock it. But at the same time, using the folding feature every single time sounds to me like that motor going bad prematurely over the life of the truck. In other words, why use it if I don't need to.

My procedure (habit now).....
I back into a parking slot....I shut the truck off....and BEFORE I open the door....I hit the fold mirror button....while the mirrors are folding (in), I open the door and exit (mirrors continue/complete the stow/fold).
I did the Lincoln mod and wire switch a while back on my '17. When I turn off the truck, get out, close the door, and press the little black button on the handle, the doors lock and the mirrors fold in. When I return to the truck and either grasp the handle to unlock, or press the unlock button on the fob, the doors unlock and the mirrors both fold out. Truck does not have to be running. Same behavior if I use the keypad on the door pillar to either unlock the truck or lock it - the mirrors unfold or fold accordingly. Key fob can be a mile away and truck turned off.
If I'm in the truck and press the mirror fold button, they stay folded until the button is pressed again. This is on a Lariat Ultimate - not sure about other trim levels. I followed all the instructions from the Forscan thread.
Both my ‘15’s would fold mirrors without any power or keys in ignition. My 17 has to have the button pushed so accessorys on. Haven’t tried opening door.
Maybe C12H24 has found a way. I always try with the door closed after I park. Maybe it will do so but the door has to be opened. Odd but better than nothing. I'll try tomorrow.
yes did the same with my ‘18 F350 at Walmart. Turned the engine off, got out and shut the door, then decided to close the mirrors JIC.

the mirrors will not stow/fold once the door is open - you can fold them AFTER you've turned the truck off only because of the power delay function - once you open a door power is terminated and the mirrors will not fold in.
uhhhhhhh..... thanks!? I don’t know how to decipher what needs altered in order to power the mirrors with the ignition off!
Earlier in the thread, someone was wondering if power mirror wiring changed between the '17s and later models. The diagrams indicate wire colors/pins that control the mirror folding in the '17 Workshop Manual, that's it. If someone has access to a later manual, wiring could be compared for possible changes as I believe some with 18s did not have success making it work.
To determine wires that need to be changed for auto-power fold when off, best suggestion would be the "Forscan" thread. Beyond that, I cannot answer your question.
Fatfenders, I just received my 2018 Helm manuals on CD today, installed them on my PC, but can't seem to view any of the wiring diagrams. The program shows a table of contents, but when I select something from the list (like Power Mirrors), it just shows "loading" at the top of the page. Seems to be some type of script error/problem. The Workshop manual and PC/ED information is viewable, but not the wiring diagrams. Did you have to do anything special on your PC to get them to be viewable? I don't want to hijack this thread, so feel free to PM me regarding this. TIA

Based on this it would seem that the wiring mod without forscan update would be a good chance at allowing a '17 to fold/unfold without ignition on. Curious if anyone out there has done it, or mayb jax, next time your fooling around with forscan you can try reverting the module edit and see if you can power fold/unfold without ignition on? You know... For science and whatnot...
