My 2003 F250 has the regular door mirrors, but I'd consider looking for a set of the telescoping mirrors from a different 'parts' truck if I could find them. Are the two different styles of mirror interchangeable? Or would it just be easier to get the mirror snap-on extensions at the local outdoor / camping outlet and be done with it?
Yes, it is a very straight forward changeout. No drilling or anything like that. Just be careful who you buy from so you don't get screwed like me. I bought telescoping mirrors from a company on ebay that advertised their mirrors as "oem". Will fit all superdutys and X's from 99-2005. Yes, they do look like OEM, they fit perfectly, but they don't telescope in or out they do fold towards the door, not bi-directional like on the newer rigs. I paid over $200 for these mirrors and couldn't return them. Be sure to read the fine print. If the mirrors aren't described accurately, ask the company. Trust me on this. I speak from experience. I learned a valuable lesson. I will eventually get original mirrors for my truck, but not from ebay...I'll pay the extra and get them from FORD, least that way I get EXACTLY what I need/want.
By replacing the smaller mirrors can you add the heat feature? Is the wiring already in the harness? Mine are small standard mirrors and was thinking about the same thing only adding the heating option
From what I've read here in past threads you can add the heat feature. You may just have to run the wiring yourself. I have an XL model and may decide one day to change the mirrors I have now to true ford mirrors (power) Just makes it a lot easier to adjust the mirrors when you tow a trailer.
