1990 F530

Hi there-
We picked up a 1990 Winnebago Chieftain (Class A) built on the F530 Chassis with the 460. Going over what needs attention we found a few issues. Here are a couple:
1. Three of the four blower/heater fan speeds work but the highest speed does not work. I purchased a new switch and that did not fix the problem... same results. Not sure if this is a resistor issue. Any thoughts? If it is the resistor, where might that be located?
2. The coolant overflow reservoir tank has cracks in it. Haven't been able find to a replacement yet. The mount screws holes are spaced six inches apart. See attached picture (for some reason it was painted black).

Any suggestions? Thanks!

dimensions roughly 8" wide, 9" tall, 4.5" front to back

As a temporary solution J-B Weld 8297 should be a decent band aid. I keep a tube as an emergency repair for various things. Drain tank, remove, dry, apply large diameter circle on top of cracks, let cure as per directions. I have a nearby scrap yard for industrial vehicles, it's nice. Have anything of the sort around you? Wish I could promote a more permeant solution besides an aftermarket replacement tank from Summit racing. You could try manually tracing out the wires that connect to the blower, the resistor will be routed through it at some point I would imagine

Are sure you have Ford or maybe it is a JD chassis. Both used the Ford 460. A JD would have the C6 and a Ford chassis would have an E4OD transmission.
If it is a Ford chassis it would be an F53 chassis.

As for the container maybe you can get one from Winnebago. Other than that it would have to be after market.

That said what AC system do you have. It could be made by a few manufacturers, one was the Evans but there were others systems used but at any rate it is not a Ford AC system other than the compressor and the condenser.

I can use JB weld. No industrial scrap yards up our way. It is the Ford Chassis. Running the vin I get F530. Not sure what the difference would be from F53. Not sure what AC system, but the replacement switch was Dodge.

All of the Ford motorhome chassis were F53 chassis, not F530. But most parts from a F550 will work in later years.
The VIN look ups get it wrong or are just adding the zero on the end.
When you have a VIN starting something like 3FCMF53G0RJB the F53 means you have an F53 chassis.
So when looking for parts use F53.

I do not think Evens ever used Dodge parts so I do not think you have an Evens AC system.
I do not remember all the names of the other suppliers of the AC systems but I think most are all out of business anyway.
Denso was another supplier.

Thanks Bill. Using F53 for finding parts/info has been helpful.

On the heater/AC fan, I think that the resistor for your fan is bad, usually located in the plenum for the HVAC to keep it cool

Well, I first replaced the fan switch. No change. And then the resistor. Still no change. I then went hunting for the relay and found a circuit breaker for the high speed fan. The breaker is the old push button type. Will test... once I figure out how to do that.
Thanks

Looks like it's the circuit breaker. Will look for a replacement.
