That big block of steel is the OE MB ball joint press. It is easily 20lbs! It works for W126, W123, and W116s I think. One of the best tools I have purchased for these vehicles. It has installed seven sets of ball joints at least.

Where did you get that press? I need to grab one ASAP.

Hey now, these older MBs have earned their air time for how long they last with proper maintenance!

Mine was at 180k and was a good car, left it sitting too long with out starting and the fuel pumps are gummed up. I also had a 1981 E21 BMW IS, that car was fun until someone t boned me and ruined the car. A few years back I almost had the keys to an 04 E55 AMG compressor but someone came with cash in hand (10k) when I was test driving it so I got screwed lol.... But boy that car insanly fast for being a sedan.
Sorry for the thread hijack Hitman equis im a sucker for Mercedes cars and some Bemers caugh, caugh E30, E46 M3 caugh, caugh.

My preferred BMWs are the E23, the first 7 series. Specifically the factory turbo model, I will post a few pics of my upgraded turbocharger and custom, drop in Tial F38 wastgate conversion I designed. Uses stock base, but all F38 on top. Rebuildable and upgradeable. Two of my 745i have the rear seat radio and rear bucket seats. Also, figured out how to swap E32 750iL (V12 cars) transmission guts into the I6 case.

At 180k, the MB SOHC V8s need a head job...problem is the threads are aluminum in the block and love to rip out. You can buy the jig and helicoil the block easy enough, why MB uses six bolts per cylinder is beyond me. I had 500SEL Euro 9:1 dual log manifolds on mine, huge difference in power. The factory crossover on the US spec 560SEL was 1-5/8" OD. Yep, header primary tubes are bigger. You can get by with just stem seals, I have the tool to depress the rocker arm and dual springs.

Ball joint press I bought years ago (about $550 I think), if you want to pound out the old BJs and mail me your spindles I will press in the new joints for you. Send OEM or Lemforder only please. Toss in a return label and I can mail em back. I use a 24mm, 3/4" socket to pound the old ones out and a 5lb sledge. Works perfect.

What I liked about the most about my 560 was the reclinable back seat, lots of good memories on that back seat from my high school days lol....

Just to keep it a little on topic with Fords and all, I took this photo with both vehicles lined up nose to nose for comparison. This was a few days after I bought the truck:

Looks good, I even bought some AMG 18" stagered wheels for my 560, but never got around to install them. Maybe soon.

Nah remove that metal trunk partition, four or six bolts. 10mm heads I recall. Need to remove the supply and return hoses (may as well do a strainer when you get real into it), then the straps. It comes out from inside the trunk.

My SDL also has the power rear bench. Pretty crazy option!

Cold starts seem much easier with shimmed injectors. Cranks just the same, but seems to light off easier. It was in low 40s this morning when I lit it off. Bit of white smoke when truck was still glowing, but nothing like before.

New alternator also installed, now if I could find a new boot for the power lug I would be good to go. I also replaced the ring terminal, 6awg and a 1/4" hole work fine. I just filled it with solder using the bench vise and installed the cable after I cut if off squarely and stripped to all fresh copper. Some of the wires on the old terminal were broken. Maybe that is why the rectifier melted?

Filled up the side tank...and no leak! The o-ring cured it.
