When you do need a windshield, be sure to check out the one they intend to install. I had the glass place, with the best reviews, come out with the wrong windshield that had the green shading across the top even though they were shown the truck and it was agreed that I wanted the original. Next trip out, they had the "correct" windshield with the Super Duty logo and tore out the old one and stuck that one in. Well the black margin around the edges were too small exposing the guts below. it looked like he!!. Last attempt had the correct windshield plus soiled headliner and a one foot scratch across the dash. Next time I need a windshield, it is time to trade the truck, I don't need this grief.
Yep My Replacements were all Carlite Glass with the FOMOCO Oval, but they don't seem to hold up to Minor Impacts like the Older Glass Did. Getting tired of Changing and Re registering the Toll Pass Sticker everytime that the Glass is replaced LOL
Carlite is just a FoMoCo brand name when Zeledyne sold off the float glass plant in 2011 it all went to Carlex. Look up DOT 467 it's a Carlex owned DOT. The other issue which is widespread in the industry is creating lighter glass panels which has lead to nuisance cracks.
Not sure if I'm following you guys. Chip from a stone hit or an immediate crack from a stone hit? Why would you replace if not cracked? Up here in British Columbia for a small fee you get encouraged to silicone fill you're chip-stone hit, toward a replacement should your windshield crack. I've been driving on freeways to work for the last seven years and only received one large hit, stone chip, that I had filled. Hasn't cracked yet. Maybe I'm lucky?! I have more issues with the paint chipping off my painted bumper lol.
