Like the title says. I've read where a lot of guys have issues with windshields leaking after being replaced, and the GEM shorting out from getting wet. I don't want to be one of those guys! My windshield is OEM surprisingly... what is a good shop I can trust to do the job right? I had a rock chip repaired earlier this year, and IIRC it was Safelite that came out and did the work... are they worth a crap? Any idea what new glass costs? I don't know if the ins. company is going to help out on this one or not... still need to call them.
I am in the same boat, Ive got just a little over 230,000 mi. on my oem windshield, it is very pitted and tons of rock chips ect, I just fear swapping it out in fear of it leaking down the road sometime... makes it a pita to see when the sun is just right...
I'm in the same boat, mine has had a crack on the bottom for several years and been afraid to have it replaced. Now all scratched and pitted and gonna have to bight the bullet ad get it done
Hey Chase, I don't know about the other insurance companies but State Farm dropped repairing windshield rock dings about a year or so ago. That is unless you carry full coverage with no deductible.
I just paid out of pocket to have a small crack/chip patched by Northwest Windshield. My Insurance (State Farm) had picked it up in the past. I have full coverage but with a $ 50.00 deductible.
However they did tell me if it continues to crack all across the windshield they will replace it and my cost will be $ 50.00. Go figure?
The bummer was per NW Windshield. That the crack had went so long before being repaired that they couldn't make the crack disappear?
They said even though all the air was sucked out and filled by the repair agent, that the tint (didn't know it had any) was bleached out but that even though I can see the crack just like before it's really filled.
So it looks just like it did before but they said it won't spread?
Everyone still on their OEM glass...I dont see how ya did it. I must have horrible luck! I think Ive been through 4 and my current one has a crack goin about 16 inches across on the passenger side near the bottom. I pass inspection every year so Im not gonna replace it until right before we drop full coverage!
Chase, I used safelite to replace my windshield a year ago, and its been great so far. I only paid like $170 for windshield+install on a promo. I just went with the aftermarket glass instead of OEM.
Rick- will do, thanks for the suggestion.
Nic- Safelite wants $175 for new glass... FTE parts guy lists the newer windshield that says SUPER DUTY across it for $200 but I doubt the local dealer would honor the price, or install it for any reasonable cost.
Count me in the same boat you all are in. My windshield is OEM and at 108,864 miles its time to replace it. Too many pits and cracks to count! If anyone has a good recommendations on installers and where to get the glass it would be much appreciated. I would like to get the new glass that has "Super Duty' on the top.
I too had safelite do mine and so far so good. They are a nationwide company and if any thing goes wrong they say they will fix it at no cost. IMO they are a good company......Hope that helps

My glass was perfect, save for two repaired rock chips... until yesterday.
Chase- Remember that it isn't so much the windshield that determines if it will leak... It is the installer and what system and products they use. If you get a guy that is minimum wage and doesn't care you will have the same issues no matter where you go. The companies that charge more usually do because there guys are certified and making decent money. Just my .02 from having dozens and dozens of glass replaced as a manager in my previous profession.
