I just reviewed the entire thread and realized he didn't buy the AMP-specific steps. He bought the steps from Ford. It sounds like if you buy the AMP ones then you don't get integration into the screen to deploy/disable the steps.
Sorry to resurrect such an old thread. But for my step on my 2019 350 King Ranch SRW, I can push the button way in and nothing happens. It seems like any spring latch system is broken. I just bought the truck used. Is the mechanism accessible? If I remove the interior tailgate panel (held on by the 8 or 10 star screws?) can I get access to it?

i did remove the panel several years ago to lubricate a number of points, i do not recall the particulars that you are asking, but i can say that everything went back together well and easily so it is something you may want to try…good luck with it.
I could be wrong but I think the spring that allows the step to pop out when the button is pressed is in the handle. The yellow **** has the spring in it.

Taking the cover off will not get you to the mechanism. The step pad is blocking it.
This is what you have to get at.. it's undernethe. This is with the step pulled up while the tailgate is up.
