My Sync3 took a dump last summer. Took it to the dealer twice. Both times they returned the truck saying its fixed. Steadily has gotten worse and now is completely useless. I am going to start checking the wiring harness connections for corrosion. I don't have a wiring diagram for the vehicle and I am concerned that if i disconnect the wrong harness I may set one of the air bags off. Do you know which harness connection they fixed?
Thanks in advance.
Find another dealer. Some aren't tech savy and don't have techs that want to really diagnose a Sync problem. The APIM issue is well known so a halfway knowledgeable dealer will know what to do and how to do it.
EDIT: Your profile says you're in TX, I'm guessing Bolivar Peninsula. Cook Ford in Texas City replaced mine last summer. They stumbled their way thru it, but they figured it out. McRee should know as well...but good luck getting an appt any time soon.
Yes find a new Dealer! Mine has been perfect since the end of January when the APIM was replaced. Now I am back to loving the truck!! At least until this one goes bad lol...
Previous model years and other models have had TSBs and warranty extensions deployed due to continued failures. Ford seems OK with these things failing as opposed to fixing them permanently.
I feel your pain. My 2011 XLT sync system went out two years ago. I paid $865. for a new APIM and another two hundred to replace a six inch connector wire to the door speaker. A month later radio goes out again. I decided on an after market radio installed for $650. Then the door speaker went out (bad connection) where the tech had to take the door off so as to complete a "home run" to the new radio. Another $280. ( I have to have sound). Now the other door speaker is going in and out. The truck had 51 K when all this started.
Ford should hang their head in shame at the fact they cannot build a reliable sound system.
The sync system is a piece of junk. I don't know which sync system I have 1, 2, or three but my guess is they all blow.
Anybody else have a similiar story ?
I bit the bullet and paid the $407 to replace APIM... Still having issue now that if I have XM playing and shut down truck, after about 5 minutes, when I start it back up it has changed to some random FM radio station... Already talked to dealer to make them aware. Taking back in next week.
That's been an issue since version 18093 of SYNC came out. Ford is well aware and has done nothing to fix this. Many of us are experiencing this.
Only solution I've found so far is to shut the head unit down before you turn the key off.
For me turning the head unit off before the key would not work as the radio would just stop working while on and would not come back on even after a re start.
Microsoft developed this system. Is it any wonder why it doesn't work ?
I have spent over two thousand dollars just so I can listen to music in a vehicle I drive about three thousand miles a year.
A fool and his money is soon parted !

Depends on the year of vehicle you have. As this is 2017 forum and on it is not Microsoft it is Ford!! LOL get your facts straight.

If you have a 2017+ (since that's the forum we're in) then you have Sync 3, which is made by BlackBerry (QNX) and not Microsoft. Just an FYI.

Well yes it does work on their OS however Ford was much more active in the development of this version than on the previous 2 with Microsoft. One of the reasons they left Microsoft which today looks like a questionable call at best.

Lol.....The latter part of your reply......Don’t say that, think positive and yes, I’m still waiting on my replacement APIM ......6 months and counting.
Good thing that Apple CarPlay works flawless for me otherwise there’d be a real problem. Lol

Has the $2k been spent trying to fix Ford's unit or did you go aftermarket? Either way I'd say you pursued it to the end!

Took my truck in last week, 2017 f250, and apim ordered. They called yesterday and scheduled me to have it installed this coming Friday. Not sure why you should have to wait that long on an APIM.
