I’m finding that Sync 3 will come up in the mode I left it in if I turn the key to "acc" or "on," pause for 3-4 seconds, then move it to "start." A pain? Yes. But, maybe not as annoying as having to reset the mode.
For those with keyless ignition, maybe pressing the button without your foot on the brake, wait 2-4 seconds, the press with foot on the brake would work. ???
I bit the bullet and paid the $407 to replace APIM... Still having issue now that if I have XM playing and shut down truck, after about 5 minutes, when I start it back up it has changed to some random FM radio station... Already talked to dealer to make them aware. Taking back in next week.
I believe that is a known bug in the current version of the SYNC 3 software. Your dealer probably won't be able to do anything about it until the next update.
Ugh. Same issue with a 2017 F250 Lariat. Owned the truck one year and just recently passed 36,000 miles and Ford is way too quick to say the warranty is up (learned this when I brought up the battery corrosion that is happening). As far as Sync, I tried the Master Reset and pulled the fuse and still nothing works. I had the latest update for a couple of months and the problem started getting really bad a few days ago and now it is almost unusable. Ford support sucks, which is upsetting considering the cost for these trucks are higher than a luxury branded car.
I refuse to pay anyone to work on my truck, and I don't think I should have to pay for this electronic issue on a 1 year old truck.

I'm having the same exact issues!! Luckily I'm still under warranty, but I bought my truck into the dealer four times now and they can't figure out what's even wrong with it! My screen goes completely black in reverse when it's cold out! No camera, nothing. So I bought it into them cold and they say by the time they got to it, they guess it warmed up enough and it was then working. After some of my own research now, I think they maybe have just reset it to make it work there quick and sent me on my way hoping that the warranty will expire soon (by miles) and they won't have to worry about it anymore. But as long as it's in their computer they better cover it even after the warranty expires if it still ain't fixed correctly yet. So, my next step is to leave the truck there overnight on a cold night and meet them there first thing in the morning and go over it with them and see what happens...
I also have that battery corrosion and from what another Ford owner just told me, his dealer replaced his battery as they said the factory tightens the bracket down too tight causing too much pressure on the battery. So they should replace that for free. After he had his battery replaced he had no issues after that. So I'm bringing that up next time I'm in there too...
We'll see what kind of luck I get next time.

This is happening to a lot of us since the most recent update of SYNC. Ford seems to be in no hurry to do anything about it. The only solution I've found is to shut down the head unit before I turn the truck off. Then when I restart the truck, power the head unit back on and it returns to wherever it was previously. If I forget to turn the stereo off before killing the engine, it defaults to an FM station no matter where it was previously set.
As a FYI...I had similar issues with my nav screen. My fix had nothing to do with the APIM but with the corroded wiring harness connector near the spare tire. Crazy as it sounds when they finally fixed the connector problem all my gremlins went away.
My screen, sync 3, was crashing, freezing and becoming very frustrating. After 5 visits they finally got it fixed.
Just got back from a 400 mile round trip today. Started this am early with a hard reboot disconnected battery all night. Nav worked for about 30 minutes before GPS was lost and it showed me goin all over the map lol. Voice recognition died and after an hour the radio froze. Took 8 soft reboots to get it home with no nav only radio and sporadic phone connectivity. Ford is losing customers fast. They will lose me as soon as the new GM or Ram oil burners come out.
Get it fixed you say well around here the Dealers are all backed up because of this and recalls in the electronic departments. One of the largest Dealers in the DFW area 28 Jan was the earliest appointment. Jezz just glad it did not leave me on the side of the road. Found On Road Dead L:OL....

I`ve been waiting on my new APIM since 10/8. I called my dealer on Christmas eve morning and they said that it was still on backorder.
I think the problem is that Ford is giving priority to the new 2019 F150`s first over customers who brought their vehicle in for this APIM problem which requires a new one to be ordered.
Congrats to the owners who got theirs quickly.
Hopefully Ford and it`s supplier have figured out the problem with these APIM`s and the replacements will be a 2019 APIM.

Mine is going in with the Lemon Law notification letter (Vernon Articles) here in Texas to both Ford Certified Registered Letter and to the Service director at my Dealer. Not going to screw around with Ford on this one and believe me this gets their attention because it officially starts the clock.... Done this before.

Hmmmmm, very interesting.
I always thought that the Lemon Law only applies to something on a vehicle that would render it unsafe to drive or does this vary State to State.

My Sync3 took a dump last summer. Took it to the dealer twice. Both times they returned the truck saying its fixed. Steadily has gotten worse and now is completely useless. I am going to start checking the wiring harness connections for corrosion. I don't have a wiring diagram for the vehicle and I am concerned that if i disconnect the wrong harness I may set one of the air bags off. Do you know which harness connection they fixed?

Did your dealer actually replace the APIM or did they just reset it because resetting it only last for awhile.
The best two choices are to run everything via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto via your cell phone and the USB input in your vehicle.......it helps if you have unlimited data or put an aftermarket head unit in your vehicle.
Don’t waste your time with the wiring because that’s not your problem.
