Can I ask what connector / where specifically the problem was? I'm having similar issues and wanting to check to see if this might be the cause of my SYNC to stop working.
Sorry - i'm a newbie here- that last post was intended for RedRocker, the guy from the St. Louis area who had a wiring harness connector near his spare tire causing the SYNC issues......

Hey there. The Sync issue of forgetting last station or input after turning off engine is a separate problem from the wiring harness/connector problem. Connector problem can make your radio freeze, volume stuck, can’t change channels, etc.

Does that help?
My issues are strictly the "freezing up" of the radio, where you tap the screen and nothing happens, then all of a sudden the Sync will magically unstick itself and process all of your 8 "taps" you did trying to make it work. Also - the bluetooth disconnects, GPS doesn't work, and radio functions don't respond. From what I've read, this sounds like a similar situation to your connector issue? My local Ford place, bless their heart, never seems to "have the right guy in" the day I take my truck in to diagnose this so I'm left trying to figure this out on my own, and thought I'd try to find this connector by the spare tire, before I spring for the entire Sync APIM.

Has there been any reaction from ford about the "new" apim having the same old problems? My 2017 with 38,000 miles started showing signs of an apim failure. Hopefully they will extend the warranty for sync 3 like they did for sync 2.

Depends on your service manager. Mine was a henchman so they did nothing to replace mine. I had to buy an upgraded unit from 4dtech. Took about 6 mins to replace.
That's been an issue since version 18093 of SYNC came out. Ford is well aware and has done nothing to fix this. Many of us are experiencing this.
Only solution I've found so far is to shut the head unit down before you turn the key off.
I just love it when I find out information like this AFTER I spend 65K for a F-250 Lariat. So, to join in, yes, I too am waiting for a new APIM. Fortunately, I'm still under warranty. Just wonder how long it will take to fix this issue.
Long post, sorry but this was my experience. Bought a 21 F250 6.7 XLT Jan 9th. 27 miles on it. On the drive home the nav was all over the map. Sync features were lagging and screen not responding. I gave it a day to see if it just needed to update software. Nope. Took it to the dealer, they promptly changed the APIM. Didn't fix it. Ordered the telematic control module. Wait 3 weeks for that. Didn't fix it. Changed the gps antenna, didn't fix it. Did multiple resets and updated software several times. Still same issue with nav all over the map.
Truck says it's in Africa according to the nav.
Per the ford tech support hotline they ordered and changed the coax cable to the antenna. Didn't fix it. Another dealer suggested to change the whole screen. Confirmed that with ford tech support, ordered it and it fixed the issue.
Truck was at dealer for over 50 days straight. At the 30 day mark I initiated an call to ford cust service and told them I wanted a buyback. Got an email and call from an agent answered the questions, was approved for buyback a couple days later. Another agent contacted me with the actual offer a week later. 3 options:
Pay off my loan, cut a check for what the truck is worth and 2500$ discount on another ford.
Pay off the loan and pick any new ford vehicle and pay diff of msrp from my truck to the new one.
Cash and keep the truck once it's fixed.
First offer was 4200$ I was able to get them to increase it to 7K. So truck is fixed and I got a check for 7K. All warranties remain the same on truck. Can still claim buyback later if another issue arises and it's not fixable. I made sure to ask if there would be any lemon law criteria tied to my VIN now. They said no. The official ford letter stated they were doing this under the Texas lemon law.
I would suggest resetting the ACM and APIM. If you are comfortable and have forscan it's very easy and will clear up a lot of issues normally.
How do you reset those? I'm an old guy and don't know much about trucks, but everything that has been listed as issues I'm having. Also, someone mentioned an update. Seems like I did the update and then started having problems. Thanks in advance.
2017 F350 King Ranch Dually no GPS and Touch Screen Latency
Hi all, Just bought a used 2017 F350 King Ranch and during the test ride and on the way home the touch screen and GPS worked just fine... Hooked my gooseneck horse trailer to it and all of a sudden the "no gps" icon popped up and the touch screen has major latency! I don't plan to use apple play.. Just want the truck's navigation to work and no latency in response on the touch screen. I have a 13 F250 Platinum and have never had any issues! Is this the APIM or just needing an upgrade?
Also, I have had to do the Radio Power button and Right Scan to re-set constantly and the Eject Button and Right Scan to reset plus the master reset! Nothing has fixed the issue.

UPDATE: Problem solved - upgraded to the 3.4 Sync using Forscan and Cyanlabs update! No more frozen screen, latency to the touchscreen and GPS works fine; steering wheel controls respond quickly.
