Is this a GPR Problem
Lacking the means to test the HPOP, I took it to a local shop and they confirmed that it was in fact a bad HPOP - as well as a few other things.
- Need a new HPOP
- Replace the IPR, as most likely damaged when the pump failed
- Up-pipes are leaking, so repair those
- Intake manifolds also leaking, those would be re-sealed
$2856 total with labor for all of the above. The engine has 340k miles on it and otherwise seemed to be running well. I put a rebuilt transmission in it two years ago. So $3k seems like the cheapest way to keep having a truck at my disposal.
Are any of the jobs listed above easy enough for an amateur mechanic to tackle? $780 of the total is labor, but I've never done any of those repairs before. Any reason not to keep putting money in this rig to keep it alive for another 100k miles?

When mine wouldn't start and I was reading old threads I got the feeling most HPOPs were replaced by guess and by golly. I couldn't find another conclusive HPOP test.
Did the shop tell you how they tested the HPOP? I think most of them guess by partial process of elimination.
The HPOP can go bad easily. All it takes is a sticking relief valve.
