Wet bolt failure

I was getting a lot more suspension noise when backing and turning into sites so I ordered a MorRide heavy duty shackle and wet bolt kit to replace my Dexter HD wet bolt kit. I started installing it today and I think I found some of the problem, the bushing was also badly damaged. Why it stayed in place I have no idea it was the front bolt on the right side so if would have come out it wouldn't have been good.

I like the MorRide system over the Dexter because the bolts are pressed into the shackles to give them more sideway movement support. I tryed to getting them out because with my MorRide RE setup it would have been easyer to install them with the bolts removed, with a little prying I did get them in in one piece.

About the only way they can make a wet bolt, these bolts and shackles have over 100K on them.

So the Dexter bolts went 100k? Not bad, I've got Dexter bolts on mine. Maybe 50k, I'll check them .

They are easy to check by putting a wrench on the nut and try to tighten it, if it turns easy it's in two pieces. I'm not complaining about the Dexter bolts because they served us well but I will pay more attention to them from now on.

Besides breaking the bolt didn't look to worn for having a 100k. Glad you caught it before a bad mishap on the road.

Most of the bolts looked pretty good for how old they are but I've keep them well lubed over the years. Got the rest of them changed today without any more surprises, so now the only thing I haven't changed is the axles.

I need to add the wet bolt kit to my 5th wheel. Can you use the MorRyde wet bolts on a Dexter Ez Flex equalizer system? Reason I ask is MorRyde offers a tandem wet bolt kit with 2 1/4" shackles and Dexter does not. I would have to purchase each individual piece to make up the Dexter wet bolt kit and it would add quite a bit to the cost compared to combined kit. Dexter only offers a wet bolt kit with 3 1/4" shackles.

Just use the HD kit, the .5 in shackles come with longer bolts for the front bolt and equlizers bolts are shorter for the 1/4 brackets.
