Engine Ping: Sounds like thick glass
So I was running the engine and heard a ping every once in a while while driving. it sounded like a piece of thick glass would get dinged.
I recorded a video here. Around 5 seconds you can hear it.

Check the base timing setting with a light, should be 10deg BTDC with the spout plug removed to disable computer advance.

Before top dead center?
arent you supposed to use cylinder 1 to do that? Cylinder 1 in these vans are damn near impossible to get to.

Yes Before top dead center, cylinder 1 is passenger side front and you just need to clip the timing probe on the plug wire anywhere along it's length.
