I was messing around with the old truck truck today. ( 91, AT, 4x4, 5.8L) and could not check the timing. I followed the instructions, removed th3e spout plug and all that good stuff, cleaned and marked the timing marks but no luck. Any ideas?
What are you saying you couldn't see the mark with the light, as not even in the approximate area?
If not it might have slipped the outer ring on the harmonic balancer so its position is off, you'd have to replace the balancer to correct the problem but that is easy enough to do.
Oh its gotta be asked just to be sure, you are connecting the timing lights inductive pickup to number 1 cylinder, front passenger side?
