not that I’m referring to this situation but the manual is to protect stupid people from doing stupid stuff. That’s you there are so many videos on YouTube....they didn’t read the manual. Not to mention. If I had a nickel for every time someone asked a question that was in the manual I’d be able to put my grandson through university.
Just my opinion
but in all seriousness I don’t think it’s all lawyers talk.
It was a joke, but there's truth to it. The tailgate can definitely hold more than 150lbs. If Ford had zero liability in the game they would probably say something more like 500lbs.

Hence the lawyer quip.
well perhaps 150 is a little light but you need to remember they said “ while moving”. Look at it from their POV; moving down the road....hmmmm wonder how many different ways you can do that. See that’s where the stupid comes in. Just look at some of the hilarious videos out there. There are some great Darwin awards out there too. Have a feeling that if some of these folks in the video(s) would have read the manual well...and had some comman sense maybe a different outcome.
What I find ironic is that ford sells a bed extender wouldn’t that invite you to put something on the tailgate ??
That's like me saying I have a 30,000lb TorkLift hitch on my truck so the truck better be able to tow 30,000 lbs, ha.
I can see you’ve read your manual. Tricon your always entertaining for me.
A few points on that article 1st. Wonder what the 2006 Chevy manual states WRT max static tailgate Wt?....I’ll just assume Ford engineering wins agin!!
2nd and more to my point. You can see how non static tailgate situations without mitigation could be putting you and others at risk. This really has been my point.
Now on to this tailgate cable read.....really was hoping Hoping it talked about cable from a non stationary prospective, at least they commented on it. I guess that’s Y we have YouTube.
Thankx Tricon et al.
I don't think that's the same thing.... these are factory equipment ramps, not an aftermarket add on.
I think it is the point. Look at this from a payload POV. If my (________) has a payload capacity of ~ 500# should I load ~1600# because my ramps can handle 1600# probably not but then again seen lots of crazy things on the highways.
just my opinion as always.
Bill
And my point is that the Ford supplied ramps that came with the truck are rated at 1600 lbs... if the tailgate cant handle it, then they should clearly state that the ramps are above the load limit of the tailgate.... and they do not. To me, that would make it a liability on Ford.

I’m not arguing your point. Perhaps the tailgates of the F-150/250/350/450 can handle a temporary static load of 1600# total. Those ramps are made to meet other industry’s standards not just tailgate scenarios in fact I’d imagine lots of people use them without a tailgate and not even on their trucks. That’s the main reason there built to a 1600# rating. This is my thoughts anyway. Personally......it’s a free country and truck owners can do whatever they like. The problem is often their oblivious to others around them. That’s what I take issue with. You can’t fix stupid. You can however sedate it.
Just my thoughts. Good debate though.
One thing I did note.... the tailgate step warning is for load (person plus materials ) should be kept under 350 lbs. Whether or not that is because the step will bend/ break or that the torsional load on the tailgate would be too much, I don't know.
I agree if they work as advertised. Only weight on the tailgate will be the front wheels as you drive over to load. 2/3 of the weight will rest on the ramps.
