Hello folks!
im a new member with a new truck and a quick question. I recently bought a 1986 F350 with a 6.9. My question is this, when the motor is running and not yet to operating temp the wait to start light will blink for at least 10 minutes or so until it’s up to temp. Is this just letting me know that it’s not up to temp or is this perhaps an issue with the glow plugs themselves. Kind of like a warning light
welcome to FTE.
i am not that familiar with the old style controller that you have, but it almost sounds to me like the controller is starting to fail. i would keep an eye on it, because those controllers tend to fail in the on position and will then burn the glow plugs out.
After getting my hands on the diesel supplement to the 86 shop manual it sounds like the light cycles because the glow plugs are in “after glow” until the motor reaches approx 165 degrees. Explains why it only does it when the motor is cold. Thanks for the info
