okay i just got a 89 7.3 idi last weekend and im having minor probs ( tach sensor - which may be causing my tranny's weird shifting) and my glow plug only cycle when the engine has been run??? when i go to turn it on for the 1st time that day the "wait to start" light wont come on , yet once you drive it somewhere and shut it off even for up to an hour or so the W T S light will come on and it wil fire right up... the glow plugs are new from what the previous owner told me , so my question is why wont the glow plugs (or the wait to start light) not run when its cold??? i would think it would be the opposite ( not cycle when warm). any info on how to remedy this would be great.. ive seen on another truck, where the guy has directly wired the glow plugs to a push button in the cab ( hold for a few seconds and your good to go) is this an easier fix for this prob? thanks agian.. well, if the po told you the plugs are new, he probably put a garbage brand plug in it. and you very likely have a bad connection on the controller. that would give you a no glow on first start, but as you drive around, you vibrate the connection enough to let them come on when warm.
