2011 Escape XLT Steering Problem
I recently bought and installed at home a new pair of rotors and pads for my 2011 Escape XLT. Prior to installation, I had no issues with vehicle handling, power steering and everything was fine. After installation, upon engine fire to pump the brake pedal, the steering wheel inexplicably and of its own accord, turns to the right as far as the steering rack will allow it, and then sit there.
If the key is turned to ACC, the steering wheel can be turned and stay in place, but upon engine startup, the wheel constantly turns to the right, is extremely difficult to turn back. I've narrowed the issue down to a problem with the Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), as I removed the lead to the fuse in the engine compartment fusebox. That leaves me with no power steering, but a vehicle that works otherwise. I've read about this model generation having problem with the torque sensor, but from what I can tell that is a more mild shaking of the wheel back and forth.
Any information would be helpful, as I would prefer to avoid what I'm sure will be a hefty bill at the dealership.
