Clutch selection

So I’m in the market for a new clutch and I’m looking for someone to point out the major differences between these two clutches.
IDC about brand don’t tell me what you bought I want someone to explain to me which one should work better and why

Perhaps you should call the manufacturer of your chosen clutch if you don't care to hear about our choices and why we selected them.

Also, there is more friction material on the top one, so perhaps it is a "HD" version, but hard to tell without knowing a part number or manufacturer.

Hard to say what the material is from the pictures as well.

I could be wrong but...those both look like what I call 'button' clutches. Those buttons may well be ceramic and I would stay away from a ceramic clutch. They don't feather out well and make trucks jump around like a Pogo stick.

Yeah both are ceramic clutches, I don’t want to hear about what people bought because everyone’s truck is different. I was looking into ceramic clutches because they hold more horsepower. But I do hate my current clutch and the lurching it gives at idle.

These are the two, neither are “HD” I just think the southbend looks better built but is it worth all the extra coin?
I also have looked at dual disc clutches too but others have said they are grabby too any insight would be appreciated

Markus, I don't mean to sound like a jerk here, but the best people to ask about the clutch you are considering are the manufacturer and then their closest competitor.

I know you don't care, but I went with South Bend 1939 OHD because my installer highly recommended them. I called and spoke to sales and then tech support for options after reading the options myself. I made an informed decision based on my goal HP and current HP of the truck. I also took into consideration heavy towing at 12.5K lbs cross country.

The clutch material on the 1939 OHD of the clutch I selected is not grabby at all and there is more of it on the model I selected because it is a "HD" version. With all of the torque and slow starting towing heavy, I needed something like that so it would last 100K miles if treated properly.

I made the right decision for my truck. Your truck is different, that is correct, that is why our advice is worth what you pay for it, nothing...

Not sure what you are asking...."don't care to hear what you bought but wanna know about these clutches"?! Um, alright.....then do your research. Most people only know by what they have experienced with their own clutches and experience with towing, daily driving, parking, etc....Real world experience is always heads above an opinion based on a photo.

.....Yeah I don’t wanna hear the people who say I’d only buy southbend or valair, I’m just looking for someone to explain the differences between ceramic and organic and which one is better under what conditions, I can’t call the manufacturer until Tuesday so I went here first.

That is a different question. For those who might pass this way in the future, here is a good writeup (skip down past the clutch theory of operation):

Clutch Friction Materials Explained - Organic, Kevlar, Ceramic, etc.

Thanks for the article very helpful.
I think I want an organic clutch or at least 50/50 but I’m having trouble figuring out what HP/Torque I make. I have 180/30 injectors, D66 turbo with WW2, intake and exhaust. Anyone got a good approximation of what I’m making? TIA!
