A few months ago I saw a Ford explorer or expedition (not sure) that had a flashing 3rd brake light (the light over the rear hatch).
When they hit the brake, the light blinked 3 times and then went solid. I assumed this was some kind of new safety feature, as this was certainly a 2000 model or newer.
I've been trying to find out exactly what this was so that I can perhaps modify mine (2000 explorer) to do this.
All indications are that this must have been some kind of aftermarket add on.
Can you guys help?? Any ideas on this?
I found one site, that shows how to build your own circuit board and install it in order to get the flashing effect but this is too much trouble.... www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/circ/flashing.htm
And, when I hit the break I only want the brake light to blink 3 times and then go solid and stay solid until I hit the brake again....I don't want it to blink constantly while I hold down the brake pedal
So if the flasher thing will work, what is it and where can I get one??
well a flasher is what makes your turn signal's flash.. but there's no way to make it just flash 3 times. it would flash the whole time you where on the brake. is it possable that the driver of the truck you saw happend to just tap the brakes 3 times before holding the brakes down? cause i know of knothing out there that will do that.
My pleasure. I have done alot of research in LED lighting and making vehicles more visible. Primarily for motorcycles, but sometimes the technology carries over to 4 wheeled vehicles.
The whole thing was 50 bucks but it's an easy hookup and there are two screws on the board that you turn to adjust how many times the light will blink, and the duration of each blink...very nice.
