I thought I read somewhere (quite some time ago now) that someone added a compartment for one somehow. I tried looking for the write up just a few days ago but could not find it. Maybe I dreamed such a thing up.
If you wad up some newspaper and put it under the seat, it will take away a lot of it. I had to do this in a Suburban I bought some years back. It worked, but it took about a week to absorb the smell.
The PO of my truck smoked in it with the windows up and the A/C on recirculate. I'm a smoker and the truck was unbearably smelly. I left the windows cracked about an inch or two any time it was parked and it was better within a couple days and seemed cured in about a week. Any time I drove I put the windows down and had the vent on low to air it out, it too was packed full of stink.
Odoban does a pretty good job quickly. My brother uses it in his Jeep after a weekend of whisky and cigars. Mist the interior and close it up tight in the sun to cook the stuff, odor gone by morning. There are other sprays specifically for smoke smells that probably do a good job too.
If you're extra sensitive or the PO really smoked it up you may have to spray some stuff through the vent system to deodorize that. Put the fan on high, fresh air setting, spray through the intake at the cowl.
Another option is an ozone generator, I hear they do a really good job pretty quickly.
No SD ever came with a cabin filter. As for your cigarette smell if you have cloth seats and carpet floor buy some "Awesome" spray bottle and "Fabuloso" pick your fragrance of choice and go down town on the entire interior of the truck the smell will go away and leave your ride smelling clean.
Bought a cabin filter years ago at a parts store.... because it was listed on their computer. I practically dismantled the dash trying to find where it goes..... there is NOT a cabin filter in a 2001 Lariat ! !
ZEP smoke odor eliminator is what it is called now, and it is by far the best product i have ever used to get rid of smokers smell out of a car/truck upholstery.
When I have an issue like this, I take whatever vehicle it is to a professional detailer and ask him to de-smoke it. It costs a bit of money, but the smoke gets into the upholstry, carpet, and vents... on the glass, rubber, and plastic... it's like nuclear contamination. There are some jobs where I save money and time by doing it myself - but this is not one of them.
Short version:
Commercial grade ozone machine. Just leave it running in the car/truck with AC on full blast for a couple hours. It may take 2 or even 3 treatments if it's bad enough, but it is hands-down the best cure for smoke smell. It even worked on a cigar smoker's car I bought a few years back. It was the stinkiest car I had ever come across and it was 100% cured with the ozone treatments.
Story time:
Back when I sold cars, the general manager would smoke in his demo NEW, fully loaded Volvo SUVs. These were 50k+ brand new cars that were to be sold once they got to 4k miles. Most people looking to buy a brand new luxury SUVs are understandably put off by cigarette smoke smells.
He had a commercial grade ozone machine. He would leave the car running with the AC on recirc and full blast for 2 or 3 hours. The car would stink of ozone, so he'd leave the windows open afterwards for a few hours. After that treatment, the car would slightly smell of ozone for a day or 2 but the smoke smell would be completely gone.
I bought a used 2011 mustang GT for myself and the previous owner smoked cigars in it, windows up and AC on recirc. The car had the worst smoke smell I'd ever come across in a vehicle. It took 3 rounds of ozone therapy, but the smell was completely gone afterwards. The smoke smell only slightly returned 6 months later. One final round of ozone treatment resolved it until I sold it a year later.
I love having a diesel truck, but I still miss that mustang. I saw that mustang a year later at the gym and the new owner said he wouldn't sell it back to me if I paid the same price he paid for it. He had done what I had always wanted to do to it. He supercharged it and claimed it was over 600hp. He said he never noticed any smoke smell after I told him about the car's stinky past.
