I’ve got an 82 c6. The dip stick says to use M2C138-CJ, which I have read is dexron III/mercon.
I have also read that people still use type f fluid in transmissions that call for M2C138-CJ because it creates firmer shifts. Is this true? If so, are there any downsides to using f? I assume so if the transmission was made for M2C138-CJ. But I would like to have a little firmer shift, especially if it can help prolong the life of the trans.
I would use the dexron/mercon stuff. If you want to spring for the cost, you could actually use the dexron VI, it is a semi-synthetic and is backward compatible and recommended for all the old dexron uses. Walmart is the cheapest place to get it.
If you want firmer shifts, I would put a mild shift kit in it.
