I put a 429 into a 65 F100 with a C6 transmission with a mild shift Kit. Both transmission and torque converter are bone dry. How much total fluid does it require? NAPA says I can use Mercon V, but the dipstick says Type - F. Are these interchangeable?
They are NOT interchangeable. If your trans has the original parts MERCON V will kill it. If it has been rebuilt with newer plates that are compatible with MERCON or MERCON V, then it will shift very harshly with Type F.
Defiantly go with synthetic AMSOIL, it won't harm your trans and it will last much longer and run cooler. You don't have to worry about type F or mercon it will just work. It cost a little more but well worth it.
