c6 fluid

what kind of fluid would an 86 c6 take?

A/T Fluid

Get any fluid that holds the MERCON (Ford's) standard or even GM's DEXRON. My C-6 works fine with Exxon/Mobil ATF. Those A/T sealers & conditioners help too, just check for leaks and the right fluid level regularly.

calazo, is right, any MERCON/DEX II,trans oil well do ,i have a 75 F-250 ,i just put in a new TCI Trans out of summit raceing a C-6 i"m useing DEX III + .

Ford used Type F until May 1976 then changed to type CJ which turned out to be an orange colored Dexron II which was changed to Mercon/Dexron III. So, as recommended above all C6 transmissions built after May 1976 use Mercon/Dexron III.

I was told by the guy that rebuilt my C-6 that all rebuild kits now are set up to use Mercon. So if it has been rebuilt recently, it would be that fluid.
