I have a 1996 ford ranger, its 2 wheel drive and it has about 71795 miles on it and the check engin light lights up and has not gone off. Every now and then the check engin light will go from the solid stay on to a blinking for a few and then back to the solid staying on. When i give it gas it feels like its sputtering or something and this has me freaked out! im hoping i can get some answers as i dont want to take it in without an idea of what it is... and i really dont have alot of $$$ so im hoping to avoid extra charges!
Please give me an idea if you can!
~thanks~
Tranger , I am not a mechanic but can tell you that you need to have someone check the code that truck is giving you . There are two ways , and if you look thru the forum you should find how to do it by blinking engine light or if you can find either a parts store or dealer they can put a tester on it and tell you the code . The code will tell you what is wrong . Hope this helps
~ thank you Ken00 and Billmayo for answering ~
it was missing due to a wire on a sparkplug boot.
$89.00 later...problem solved!

Hi again all,
After parusing through several threads, there is misconception that i think should be cleared up? When looking at the odometer reading, how is it read, in kilometers or miles (there is a big difference between the two)!

would clicks be the same as kilometers?
<pretty new to all this lingo>
if it reads 71795 on the odometer then thats actually kilometers? (or maybe also clicks)
i would then divide it by 60 to get the actual miles?
