Angry 1988 Ranger Problems

I got a 88 Ranger, over the last year it has been losing power. It is a 2.0L, 5-speed. The fuel filter has been changed recently, but the truck tops out at 60MPH. Also it is really really hard to get started in the mornings, it just cranks and cranks then it finally starts.

Thanks,
Matt

Welcome to FTE!!!

Try testing the fuel pressure and pulling the codes. When was a complete tune up done last, plugs, air filter, wires.

Plugs and wires were changed within 5,000 miles, air filter within 2,ooo miles. How do I check codes? I know how to check them on my Dodge, but not the Ford?

in addition to Kens suggestion I would like to add that you should take a look at cylinder compression and exhaust restriction.

I have the sneaking feeling you have a plugged cat. . . but better than than 40 pounds of compression.

Check out the link in the tech info sticky post at the top of the page for the procedure on pulling codes.
