I know he’s added the jumper cable I was suggesting that’s needed to the kit a while back, and having both batteries working closer together should help, the the overall drop in volts will still be higher with the higher demand starter.

Thanks to all for your thoughts. It looks like I have four options.
1. Replace with a new or rebuilt 6.4 starter. Faster RPM's although it may be a tad harder on the batteries..
2. Replace with a new or rebuilt 6.0 starter. I don't seem to have a problem with the rpm's of the existing starter.
3. Maybe will only need to replace the solenoid if that is bad.
4. Take the starter to the local rebuilder in Lewisville who has been doing this for at least 25 years and has a good reputation.

Being in Texas, we don't have cold starting issues. I also don't have problems starting up in about 2 seconds. Sometime back, there seemed to be a consensus that a rebuilt starter from Napa was the best choice. Some have said, buy a rebuilt starter from O'Reilly and if it breaks take it back to any O'Reilly store regardless where I am as it has a lifetime guaranty. Doesn't appear I can go wrong with any of the options. I was glad to see that the 6.4 is an easy bolt up. Thanks again!

new starter

Just replaced my starter went brand new this time "FoMoCo" the rebuild lasted about 2 yrs. Mexico, looking at the 2 the rebuilt 1 has the wire going out near the rear of the case and the FoMoCO has it coming out near the front. Notice the wire abrasion on the rebuilt 1, thinking it was it contact with the block? To my surprise the FoMoCo unit is from China. So we shall see how long it last. I stuck with the 6 liter starter as well.

Thats smart money spent there. I opted buying mine from a wrecked 6.4 with 57K on the truck. Was $115.00 and I was ok with it because it wasn't even hardly dirty.
But brand spankin new ...........way to go !!
How does it start in comparison to old 6.4 starter?
Made in Jhina doesn't surprise me, Americans cant make a starter today

You keep refering to FoMoCo. Where did you get the “new” starter from? It came in a Ford box?

FoMoCO stands for Ford Motor Company, before they changed their name to Motorcraft. Bought it right from the local Ford dealer. Box says contents made in China. Yeah box says Motorcraft all over it.

Thanks, yeah I got the FoMoCo.

That just didn't sound like it came from a dealer, which would be labeled Motorcraft. I guess they've had it with their rebuilder, or they now can get it cheaper as a China made new part rather then rebuilding cores. Visteon was the OE supplier for the assembly line product, but I don't believe was involved with the remanned starters.

While we are talking NEW parts and the box they show up in.

Jack I will be sure to post somewhere the box that the NEW Ford Motorcraft steering box comes in.
Any bets that it will have the Made in China tag on it?
