head says Dynatrac but the wallet is squeaking at the huge difference. are there other alternatives and what is the general consensus.. the thought of a plastic insert in this heavy duty part doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, at least the moogs have a hardenedpowdered metal gusher bearing
I only have 35k on my Dynatrac’s, but I’m happy I went with them...so far.
I’ve had issues with Moog U-joints and tie rod ends. Good thing they have a lifetime warranty and are easy to replace for the steering, but that won’t cover labor for ball joint replacement if they go bad again.
+1 for Dynatrac. I just put them on. Very solid. I could not do it with a standard 6" c-clamp though. I needed to get a larger c-clamp - 9" throat on Amazon for $90. The first side I took to a tire shop and they pressed them in for free which was nice. The other side I got the larger press for. A 7" clamp would work. Dynatrac are a bit taller and need a few special collars which add to the throat size needed to do the whole press properly

thoughts please
as always thanks in advance Mark
called to purchase Dynatracs and I was already squeeeking at the cost. They told me that they went up last week to $640 due to the steel price increases tarrifs. This is hogwash. 4140 has not increased by $1,500 per 100 lbs ($30,000 per ton).. they were already way overpriced compared to everything else and I just felt they were giving it to me with KY jelly so I declined.

any other good recommendations

Overpriced depends on what you get. I had two sets of ball joints (Motorcraft, Moog) last less than 40k miles each. My Dynatracs are now at over 60k miles and have absolutely zero play...and for the last 30k miles I've lived off a dirt/gravel road. And my Excursion is lifted with wide wheels/tires. So from my experience I recommend them.
I did the dynatracs. Yes they are expensive but the job is labor intensive and not a whole lot of fun. I would still pay the premium. Plus they had the courtesy to use KY
FWIW, XRF seemed to be the forum favorite economical choice when I was researching it.
I always run moog, they are lifetime warranty, and the job is really not that labor intensive. Of course I do that for a living, lol. I don't have experience with dynatrac but the forum sounds as though they are pretty good, they sure better be for that price, I can put in five sets of moog for one set of dynatrac. And yes I have put in two sets of moog on my 03 250, but it is a plow truck, carrying a 9 and a half foot western v blade, and I do drive it like I stole it. Is also a gasser. I just put moog in my 06 350 diesel, so I guess I will see how they differ in longevity.
yeah, the dynatracs can be rebuilt. It saves some money over buying a new pair but it takes about 2-3hrs to rebuilt all 4. The rebuild kit is not exactly cheap either.
