Injector contribution code #3 buzz test fail on #7
Drove my 6.0 to town the other day and it started idling rough. Seems to be ok on a trip earlier that day and seem to start idling rough out of nowhere. Anyway I scanned it with TorquePro and it reported cylinder #3. Today I fired up FORScan, did a scan it it's showing cylinder #3 contribution code. I ran a buzz test and #7 seems to be sticking. See video. Seems fine when warm. I might as well replace both injectors while I am at it.
Watched some videos by SrMasterTech and DieselTechRon. Any suggestion on tools to get the oil rail bolts out up against the heater box? Also an good links for bore cup brushes? Be the first time doing this on a 6.0 so any tips and tricks would be appreciated.
The solenoid in #3 might be fine, but a problem down in the body of the injector could be causing the FICM to back off and compensate for it; if you didn't replace #7 at the same time, once you get #3 changed out the compensation programming changes and you start popping a contribution code on #7 over a bad solenoid.
Thanks. Puts me a bit more at easy. I'll for sure do both injectors. Looks like RiffRaff Diesel has the best prices currently for Ford Remans. Any other parts to pick up while I'm there? Stand pipes and dummy plugs?

Dummies and/or SP's been done recently that you know of?
If so, they are fine to reuse........if not, it's not horribly expensive to get new. Newer ones have the extra back up ring for the o ring.
Now is a good time to replace the nipple cup o rings if they move around easily.
HHC makes a good set of o rings with the socket to remove the nipple cups
Absolutely buy the brush cup set Jack linked, you want those injector bores clean enough to eat out of.
I would double check those prices.....ficmrepair.com looks to be cheaper on the sticks, and IIRC you might need to check the build date on the truck.
That said I think most techs say to just use the later build version, they are less trouble prone.
Maybe someone else will chime in. I do know the glow plugs are different, not that is matters in this case.

From all that it's hard saying what was all performed. If I had to guess I would say they been replaced but I may get the stand pipes and dummy plugs anyway.
That last line in the “Oasis” fuel pressure 45 psi flowing. That is on the very low end of acceptable fuel pressure. Might be the cause of dropping injectors. I would put the Blue Spring in and get that up to around 60 before i replaced injectors or lost anymore.
edit: went back above that and read 42 psi. You need Blue spring !!!! Badly.

Good catch, I'll also add I don't see anywhere that the SP's or dummies were done.

The blue spring update was one of the first things I did when I bought the truck. That and replaced the alternator and batteries. The alternator was shot and the batteries were mismatched. The FICM might be next but it seems OK. I do on occasion see it fall to 47V when I am on the highway doing 70MPH or faster. I have a feeling it's because of the bad injectors so I am going to replace them and see how it performances after that.If I see it drop to 47V at any point again I will get an exchange from FICMRepair.
