Hi, i have a 1992 Aerostar. A year ago she just didnt want to start. I checked and tried everything i could with no luck. I did find out there was no spark. I replaced the module and the coil and still didnt want to start. After been parked for 8 months i decided to take her to a mechanic. He replaced the computer and the whole distributor and got her running again. I drove her home and i noticed when i hit the gas she was jerking a lot, specially in high gears (she has a 5 speed manual tranny). Another thing i noticed was that it felt as if i was pulling a boat. She had/has no power. I never took her back to the mechanic because i had to go out of the country for a while, and when i came back i just used her like that. This year im in a bad situation and have no money to take her back to the mechanic. She is still jerking a lot (some days are worse than others) when i hit the gas and has no power. Could it be that the timing is off? Maybe a bad sensor? Maybe the mechanic installed a wrong computer? I will really appreciate any ideas or suggestions. Thanks in advance!
I forgot to mention that some days the jerking is worse than others, and some days it gets better. Can this be still timing or firing order issue? The feeling of no power, like if i was pulling a boat, is always there. Thanks.
Not sure when the Mass Airflow Sensors came along but if you've got one of them in the intake duct next to the air filter, give it a good spray with some cleaner meant for that purpose. I've had a couple of my Aerostars (a 96 and a 97) stumbling and fixed by spraying the sensor clean. Looking at the sensor before and after, I couldn't see any difference but I haven't had any problems since doing that.

Thank you for the suggestion, but i've already tried that a few months ago. It kinda got better for a day or so. Could the MAF sensor be bad? Could that be responsible for the lack of power too? I am gonna try to spray it again and see how it goes. Thanks again for the reply.
When my 96 acted up, it wouldn't pull the hat off your head. Top speed was a slow walk at best on level ground. A good spray and it ran as good as ever! I couldn't believe that's all it took but it hasn't acted up since. It does too much sitting and doesn't get used enough - needs paint.
The 97 started bucking as I was accelerating occasionally. The gas mileage dropped off about 25%. The tailpipe sooted up. Giving it a good spraying fixed the problem. That was about 3 months and it's been running great ever since - it's my daily driver.
ODBII began with the 96 model year so results with your 92 may be different.

You have a 96 and 97 Aerostar? That's cool. I dont see many where i live anymore. Mine is a 92 and i bought her in 1998 almost new with 30 something thousand miles and only had one owner. She was in perfect conditions. Anyway, i try to keep her in good condition since she is my daily too. She was running fine before she was parked for 8 months because she didnt want to start. After the mechanic got her running she started with that issue. I sprayed the MAF but not much improvement. I'm gonna spray it a few more times and see before buying a new MAF. If it doesnt solve the problem ill go with the timing and firing order. Yeah, my 92 doesnt have the luxury of ODBII Thanks again for your input.
Today i cleaned the MAF sensor really good with MAF cleaner and the jerking got better about 90%. It still have no power though. Tomorrow i'm gonna check if the MAF is good or bad. I found a site where it explains how to do it with just a multi meter. If its good, im gonna hook her up to a scanner i have to see if it gives me any codes. Then try to get a timing gun. Anyway, just wanted to give an update.
