Part identification???

Hi guys,

i was pulling apart a speedo cluster I acquired from a f600 and noticed that it had a box that attached in between the start of the speedo cable and the back of the speedo. I’m wondering if my 59 f100 is missing this or if it is just a f600 thing.

That’s a mini gear reduce. It’s for using different transmissions with the same gauge cluster.

Actually I think this a Speedometer mounted speed governor. Hence the electrical connections.
ND will be able to tell us for sure.

Ahh I should have taken a closer look. Didn’t notice the wires.

I’m wondering if my 59 F100 is missing this (it isn't). It's just a 500 and larger series truck thing.
You won't find this puppy on a F100/350.

Thanks guys,

excuse my inexperience, but what exactly is its function? Would it act similar to an overdrive govener and send a signal to engage the 2/3 speed rear end at a certain mph?

It compensates for the different gear ratios of a multi speed rear axle, making sure the speedo reads correctly.
