I'll be removing the grille to install rigids and was considering having the 2 center bars wrapped gloss black to match the truck. Can the center bars be installed after the grille is back on the truck? Any one have photos of this combo?

No. Too many clips that need to be assured the are secure, and the fasteners are not accessible with the grill on the truck.
^^^ What 1956 said. Also, ensure you lay down some furniture pads or thick blankets when removing / reinstalling those bars. It will take a fairly good effort to make sure all the clips snap into place. Removing the bars is the hardest part. Take your time. I pried open each snap and inserted a small piece of 18 gauge sheet metal. When I had them inserted in all the clips, I merely used a rubber mallet to slowly knock the bars forward (downward actually when you consider how I was positioning the grille). After a little tapping, the bar will fall free from the grille.
I tried pulling the bars out the other night to do exactly what you're talking about in this thread. I didn't have a piece of sheet metal and I was trying to do it with a couple thin screwdrivers. I eventually gave up. Those clips really weren't made to be removed IMO.
I'm going to attempt to wrap mine with it still on the grill, I think theres enough room to tuck the edges down underneath. I started with the wrong wrap material, so I have more in the mail.... i'll see if I can remember to post pics in here for you

I initially tried that method, too. Was fruitless. I said I used small pieces of sheet metal, but they were actually short links of some sheet metal angle bar. One leg pointed down to hold the clip open (keep it unlatched) while the other leg laid over the pointed ends of the chromed bar-clips. Those gave me targets to lightly tap with the rubber mallet. They came apart much easier that way. I believe you will run into more frustration trying to wrap the bars in place ... mostly because you will not be able to pull the wrap in the needed directions, especially into the gap between the two bars.

Thanks, I'll see if I can nab some scrap aluminum pieces from work, hopefully get enough to pop em all at once.
