Hey guys, I have a 2014 with a 4" lift with 20" factory rims and 12 1/2" x 35" tires. I recently had a flat and had to use the spare tire, obviously the spare was smaller than the other tires. I had no choice but to drive it about 200 miles before I could get it fixed. After I got back I started to get opinions about the spare tire turning faster than the 35" tire on the rear of the truck and someone said I could cause some damage in the rear end because of the different turning ratios. I changed the rear diff oil and did not find any evidence of any metal shavings or anything, but I started thinking...does anyone know if a 35" tire on 20" rims will fit under the box for the spare tire location? with the camper on the truck there is no where to keep a spare tire
thanks for any opinions
With an open differential there isn't a problem with tires of different diameters. If you had engaged 4x4 mode it would be a different story. You're fine. Using the smaller spare is a short term cosmetic issue.
I have a 37x13.50x20 tire mounted underneath in the factory location. It is tiiiiight, but it fits. When I discovered this, I was VERY happy! I carried around a full size spare for 13 years in my 7.3!
