I have 37's mounted on a 7 " lift. I have a matching spare for my set. (Procomp X-Terrains on 17" Weld Cheyennes)
Because the new spare takes up so much space in my (8 ft.) bed, I dont always carry it w/ me. Can anyone tell me if they have ever used the factory spare as a lifeboat to get them out of trouble? I assume it could be done, just curious what folks have experienced when you put the little spare on your rig? It seems rediculous to tote around the factory spare if it cannot be used.
Those of you w/ 37's and larger, do you still carry your factory spare?
Ever since running LT rated tires, I have never had a tire fail to where a spare tire was needed. My 87 F-250 came with a spare tire that was never used. When I purchased a 95 F-250 that spare tire was transferred to the new truck. That tire stayed with the truck until I got an 06 F-350. The spare tire was never used and basically took up room under the truck for close to 20 years (OK the tire was not in pristine condition after this time, but it held air pressure just fine).
Based on this I'd recommend carrying a standard size spare tire that would fit under the bed in the stock location and not bother with a 37" monster. If you need to use the smaller tire in an emergency, it will work fine.
Make sure you put the small spare tire on the front if your truck has limited slip or positraction.I also have 37" tires & i'm going to try to put a 35" skinny tire in the stock spare tire location under the bed(hope it fits).
