^^^^ This. There is no crank sensor. With the cam sensor, you have a choice between International and Ford/Motorcraft. With the VSS, only go with Ford/Motorcraft. Goes doubly so if you have an automatic transmission, because the PCM relies on a dependable speed signal to shift the transmission properly.
I meant cam sensor but typed crank sensor....sorry about that. I know there are several different places and different colors of cam sensors so I was wondering if its the same way with the speed sensor. I will go to the dealer for speed sensor....just dropped $193.00 in there yesterday! New differential cover (mine is all bent up and tweeked from po), transmission filter, transmission gasket and transmission fluid. My truck is beginning to have some shifting issues so I am going to start with the least expensive items to fix and hope it helps.
I haven't posted my transmission issue. I was able to find tons of info on this forum about E40D issues. I printed off a detailed article about what sensors can cause different issues so thats where I am going to start. If my process of elimination doesn't seem to be fix it I may be asking for help.
Process of elimination is an expensive way to troubleshoot. Esp. when it comes to sensors. If your speedometer is working normally, the VSS is low on the suspect list (not out of the question, just not something you want to throw money at right away). Does the OD-OFF light ever blink? Have you checked for codes?
And +1 on posting the issue. With these trucks in general, and the E4OD specifically, ops issues can be very individualized; it's not always useful to rely on other threads referencing issues/symptoms that SEEM to be similar. Fluid/filter changes are good measure, but sensors are another thing. As said, if you post a specific set of symptoms / conditions, there's a member (usu. only posts in the evening) here who could be very helpful.
My speedo is working properly. Tonight I am going to check and be sure my OD-OFF light isn't burnt out/broken. I have never seen it lit up at all. Can I use the bluetooth adapter to read codes for trans issues? I have only used my bluetooth adapter once and wasnt real impressed.
You are definitely correct to say that process of elimination is an expensive way to go. So tonight after I check my 3rd brake light and OD light I will make a post of symptoms my truck is having and ask for help. Thank you
