First time posting, hopefully I can get some advice and at least point me in the right direction. Well I just bought a F350 7.3 idi that’s been sitting and the od light flashes from the start. According to the previous owner he had repaired/rebuilt the tranny and never used it it’s been sitting for 3 years, the truck started instantly with two fresh batteries , and when I went to drive it it has a first , second and reverse gear but no third or od. I went to do the paper clip test in the obd1 port and the od light on the shifter stopped flashing when the clip is inserted. I couldn’t pull a code , no service engine soon light ever flashed. Does anyone have any idea what might be the issue?
All this advice pointing me in the same route, buying a obd 1 scanner it is!!! Thanks gentlemen I’ll be posting as soon as I find the result of the trouble shooting
Ok I bought a obd1 scanner and it gave me 6 codes the first one is 23 tp out of range I’m going to recalibrate this first, the other codes are all tranny related, 91-93-94-99,,,would it be better for me just to replace the solenoid pack/ valve body or any other advice?
23 you'll always get if you don't hold the accelerator (or linkage) wide open during the whole test. That's likely all that is.If you did hold WOT during the scan, then disregard.Replace it (if over 50k miles and or unknown miles,or during a reman) and read here:
The other codes point to a failing and or dirty solenoid pack connection. It's highly likely, though not limited to,that your bulkhead connector has failed.Read here:
