I never had this problem until I got my DP Tuner, now I have noticed twice while hauling my camper that the OD light flashing after a while and the only want to get it off is to put in reverse, or turn off truck and turn back on. I hauled my camper MANY times before tuner, NEVER a flashing OD light. I can push the OD button and it seems to work fine, tranny seems to shift fine. I read somewhere online that a faulty alternators could do this, true??? Help!
I dont think I have a way of getting code unless it's flashing in a code, the actual OFF light on the shifter is the one flashing, if that makes a difference.
You would have to pull codes with a scanner...being a transmission code, a free parts store code reader would probably work though, unlike with the engine needing to have AE or the like.
Yes, all the big auto parts stores by me will, such as Oreilly, AutoZone, and Advance. Normally this will not work when you have a SES light or something with the engine but it could work with a transmission code.
A Superchips handheld tuner-codereader will work too. If you can't find somebody with one, check Sinister diesel or Clay at RiffRaff, worth the money (100.00) just for the code reading capabilities.
Youre saying auto parts store will read code for free?
Yes they will, and they will tell you that there are no codes. They are not capable of reading Ford transmission codes, but most of them don't know that.
My buddys did this and it just so happened to start a week after he got his chip. Turns out it was a faulty temp sensor. Probably something simple. Get the codes pulled and we can help more.
The only time mine ever did that was when I had to downshift to 1st to snake down a steep mountain road (I use the term 'road' loosely) with my 5th wheel. It never came back, so I figured I tripped some limit in the tranny somewhere. The light stopped flashing when I shut down, and never came back.
It's possible your tuner is pushing the tranny beyond some pressure or temp limit and is throwing a code.
If the OD light was blinking, you have a stored code. The auto parts store readers can't read our trans codes.

I had never tried it, since I have snap on, but thought it could be worth a shot. Now I know better, thanks guys.
I would say the "opinion" is to find out what the code is, and proceed from there. It could be tuning related, it could be something failing...Only a few times have I had a trans code once was because my switch for the 4X4 low range was stuck on, lamp was burned out, even though the transfer case was in 2wd, after a few miles it threw a code. Then my most recent issue with a 2-3 shift error which I have yet to resolve.
