Of course nothing is free but in the great state of FL. if you have full coverage ins. a cracked windshield will be replaced without a hit to your policy or money out of your pocket. We actually had people coming around to my place of employment trying to drum up business. They were replacing windshields that weren't even cracked. Claimed they were etched by sand.
IIRC there was a lawsuit and then a law passed back in the 80's because someone got a ticket for a cracked windshield and claimed hardship as to why they couldn't afford to have it replaced so a law was passed that ins co would replace free of cost.
