Gear selector stuck in gear and wont shift.

Hello,

I have a 1997 f350 7.3 automatic. We were taking salters off trucks and guy broke steering column lever while attempting to change out of park. Well I cahnged that, fix it. Snapped the column tube. So I put a new one back in and the gear lever was would not bundge, I got under the truck(tires chalked), had a guy upstairs, (key was stuck in ignition by the way) so he was turning key on and braking as i was trying to maunal switch the gear lever that goes through Nuetral safety switch and it will not budge what so ever. So i was thinking NSS, (no codes, no CEL, no OD light blinking) I had to brake the damn thing off, fry the remaining circle nylon plastic ring. Finaly got it off. I can not line this new switch up right with out getting it in neutral. I can not get this lever shaft to change gears. I tired jacking rear of truck up to releive pressure, towed the truck forward 5", for the same concept. No luck.. Pulling fuses while I sat there on the phone for the hell of it. I posted on another forum but only one reply so far. Do I have to pull the pan? if so, what am I looking for? parking prawl or that parkig pin? Thanks again.

If the rear wheels are off the ground that will relieve pressure on the parking pawl. I don't think that is the problem. The next step would be to take the pan off and see if something is jamming the shift linkage inside the pan.

There is a "Shift interlock on the steering column and it is released by the brake peddle. Common causes are blown fuse, bad brake light switch, disconnected/broken wire and last and very rare is the interlock solenoid failure.

That's the part that creates the feel in the shift lever for each position. It should be on the end of a spring. It rolls on a toothed part called the rooster comb. The broken spring is probably binding the rooster comb preventing the shaft from turning.

D10 roller and unknown clip.
Any idea what this clip is called, after cleaning the tranny pan I noticed it.. It's bent a little but looks like some kind of clip..attached in pics. Not the d10 roller

Fixed.

Thanks everyone for all of their help. It was the detent spring,https://www.google.com/search?q=dete...obile&ie=UTF-8 In that link. Now the "e clip" was for the manual lever valve rod, it had a shift kit on it and that e clip I belive is part of an upgrade. The detent spring got stuck in gear selector. Dropped pan, 8 mm bolt. Simple. Put new NSS, steering column tube assembly, Tran filter, detent spring, and e clip I bent back and pushed on the manual lever valve rod thing. It got in a little area by arm that is connecting to rooster tail gear selector piece. Lined up NSS, can't get the pigtail to click in to new sensor but it came with a new pigtail. That suppose to be for another day.... Batteries back together and turned key, started immediately. Had to make a few adjustments to steering gear selector . shift amazingly simple.. Thanks again.
