On my recent journey to a couple of my local JYs I spotted a few contour bumpers. I've done some searching on the forum and found answers to some of my questions (can't use bumpside brackets like I had hoped when I found some, santa claus isn't real), but still have a couple.
I will post pics to show you what I'm looking at after I ask my questions. My first question. Do any contour bumpers after 79 fit out trucks? I found a 78 Bronco with a contour bumper along with a couple mid 80's Broncos with contour bumpers and they all look the same at a glance. I'll probably snag the bumper from the 78 later on, but one of the bumpers from the mid 80's Broncos looks to be in a little better shape.
My second question. At one of the yards there was a 77 Supercab ranger xlt (don't remember if it was a 150 or 250) and as I went around the back of it to see if there was still a bumper intact I saw what looks like a contour bumper, but without the spot for a license plate. Is this a factory Ford bumper? Am I simply looking at a front bumper that someone dropped behind the truck as some kind of ploy? I'm assuming it belonged to the truck only because it was directly behind it on the ground. What do you think?

Do any contour bumpers after 79 fit out trucks? No. 1980 and later is different.

Wow, that is a score of a junk yard. I would grab every one of those if you can. We just spend about 6 hours fabbing some brackets for a countour bumper to fit our '85 project. Having something to start with would have made it way easier.

It's a low traffic yard, but still I was surprised to see a few straight ones just sitting there. I'm not a hoarder, so they'll just continue to sit there. I'll probably grab the 78's bumper and see if some contour brackets come up some time down the road, but I really hate piling up parts. I don't have the ability to fabricate and shops won't do stuff like that around here due to liability. Looks like you did a pretty solid job there on yours, nice welds.

So, as far as them just bolting on regardless of aesthetics, is it just a matter of the holes on the bumpers themselves being in different locations between the different bumpers I posted pics of? Like I said, at a glance they look pretty much the same. I didn't have a tape measure or I would have checked. I'm just curious as to what keeps people from putting them on a dentside. Would it just be a matter of fabbing brackets?
