Im getting ready to order new chrome bumpers for my truck and there seems to be a couple options, the back bumper comes with 36 1/2" mount holes or 40". Is there anyway to know which one i need without measuring? I can get measurement but im trying to order today and wont be home for another week. Also truck did not have a rear bumper when i bought it.
This is probably a stupid question but is there anyway to know which front bumper i will need without seeing the truck, according to LMC its based off of vin number, which i can get but not today..... What is the difference?
By the way my truck is a 1979 f250 crew cab 2wd shortbed 460 & c6 auto factory heat an ac....maybe thatll help narrow it down for those of you who may know
You frame should be the 36 1/2" wide one, I would go measure mine, but I am a long way from my trucks at the moment too. I am sure other members will chime in.
As far as front bumper 73-mid 77 no slit where the license plate goes 78/79 has the slit at the top of the license plate.
FYI LMC bumpers are junk, cheap re-chromed beer cans, at least so I have head on here.

Well i was looking at getting the premium ones, will both style front bumpers work? I like the no slit one better....i want good bumpers so if anyone else knows where to go get them...
I was also planning on ordering the all steel premium chrome grill shell with inserts....how are these grilles from lmc??
Well the premium ones may cost you more, but that only means, they will cost you more. Good luck on getting a quality product that will not start to rust a month later.
I believe the non slit 73-77 had a different top end edge and it might be real close on the grill clearance on a 78/79 truck?
My 77.5 has a 79 slit bumper and it is good, but I have seen a old bumper (73-77) on a newer 78/79 truck and the clearance is just not there like a later bumper. I seem to remember it looking odd due to the angle cut of the bumper also.
I have heard the grill shells are a worse fit than a saddle on a cats back. Good luck on that too.

I believe the non slit 1964-77 & 1978 before serial number AG0,001 had a different top end edge and it might be real close on the grill clearance (sigh) on a 78/79 truck? Geez Louise, I've typed 100's of posts on this topic.
C4TZ-17757-D .. Chrome Front Bumper / Reproduced
1964/77 F100/350 & 1978 F100/350 before serial number AG0,001.
1978 F100/350 from serial number AG0,001 and 1979 F100/350: See post 4.
Here's another pic for your collection. Notice the 1978before&from serial number AG0,001.
1978 F100/350 from serial number AG0,001 & 1979 F100/350: D8TZ-17757-A .. Chrome Front Bumper-Use without horizontal bumper pads / Reproduced D8TZ-17757-B .. Chrome Front Bumper-Use with horizontal Bumper Pads / Reproduced. LMC hasn't a clue: There are two different widths between the inner frame rails behind the cab: 33 1/2" & 37 1/2." All 1973/79 F250 2WD's have 37 1/2" frame rails, as do 1973/79 F100 2WD/4WD, 1975/79 F150 2WD/4WD, 1977/79 F250 4WD (not High Boys). D3TZ-17906-A .. Chrome Contoured Rear Bumper / Reproduced But, are the bumper brackets for this bumper reproduced? I know that Carpenter doesn't have any, not sure if any one else does. If the truck doesn't have a rear bumper, you will also need the two license plate lamps. Lower pic: Styleside contoured rear bumper.
So sounds like lmc just makes stuff up haha, any clue which one of theirs i should order since its actually in between? Their "36 1/2" or "40"

I am swapping grill shells to the 73-77 because i like that style better so it may work with the older non slit bumper....??

Forgot to mention im getting the brackets out of a buddies junkyard
ND I do not really care what the parts book says in this situation. I know that a 73-77 ( BTW this is a 73-79 forum, so who care about a 64) will fit a 78/79 truck and vice versa. But the older bumper has a different angle on the top back side edge than a 78/79 one and that matters come install time IMO. So you have now typed it one hundred and one times, thanks again. Bredoo99 remember going to a older grill you will need round headlight buckets assemblies.
Got them in my shopping cart....so in your opinion since im going with older grille shell will the older style front bumper look good? Id really rather not have the slit

Doncha think that the members of this 1973/79 forum would like to know that the C4TZ-17757-D chrome front bumper...besides being used on 1973/77's & 1978's before serial number AG0,001...
Sure go for it, hope it fits and clears the grill shell on the edge where the bumper get real close to the fenders. On the lower part where the fender kicks fwd under the bumper.
I know the older bumper has a over all different face or front edge shape (more rounded to me) and the 78/79 has a more square design.
