I have a 1976 Ford f250 ranger Xlt automatic
. However it has a 1979 Ford F350 engine in it (its a 400).
I hoped in the truck today to drive and when i went to accelerate the truck wouldn't go over 50mph. When i tried to accelerate the engine did not rev any higher in fact it started to make a popping noise. Any ideas on what this is? It almost feels like the truck isn't shifting into the next gear correctly but I'm not an expert. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks!
I haven't tried im neutral but itll rev in park.
I've had fuel issues in the past so me and a mechanic installed a bigger fuel filter inline before the normal small fuel filter that is on the engine. Ill check that for blockage in the morning
Ya, popping back is usually lean, and if you have had fuel issues, might want to pop the top off the carb. if it is getting fuel from the line, could be full of crap.
X2 on those rubber lines. My truck used to starve out at high RPMs, and then I found the rubber hose, which connects from the fuel tank to the metal line which runs to the engine bay, to be showing cords and collapsing. After I replaced it, I never had the fuel starvation problem again.
